چکیده

A key issue for the real deployment of Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems is interoperability. A clear example is at the level of Rights Expression Languages (RELs), where two of them are a prominent role. On the one hand, ODRL (Open Digital Rights Language) is an initiative being used, for example, by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), a relevant industrial forum in the area of mobile and on the other hand systems MPEG-21 REL is an ISO/IEC standard. MPEG-21 REL is more complete, but rather complex although not exhaustive; this is why ODRL could be considered as a more flexible option. In this paper, we analyse two DRM specifications from OMA, and try to propose its implementation in an MPEG-21 environment. In addition tools able to work in both environments are presented. By defining an MPEG-21 REL DTD, a minor extension of the MPEG21 REL, and the use of the MPEG-21 IPMP (Intellectual Property Management and Protection), we are in fact specifying MPEG-21 REL profiles. This approach could simplify the implementation of MPEG21 REL applications and facilitate its interoperability with ODRL. In order to verify the feasibility of our proposal, we have implemented some tools that work with both MPEG-21 REL and OMA DRM.

Interoperability between ODRL and MPEG-21 REL

Two main Rights Expression Languages (RELs) exist to describe licenses governing the access to digital content: ODRL (Open Digital Rights Language) and MPEG-21 REL. Both RELs are powerful and complex enough. The use of different RELs could divide the network commerce in two separate factions. In this paper we propose a way for interoperability between them. They have many similarities that perm...

Architecture of a Semantic XPath Processor. Application to Digital Rights Management

This work describes a novel strategy for designing an XPath processor that acts over an RDF mapping of XML. We use a modelmapping approach to represent instances of XML and XML Schema in RDF. This representation retains the node order, in contrast with the usual structure-mapping approach. The processor can be fed with an unlimited set of XML schemas and/or RDFS/OWL ontologies. The queries are ...

An interoperable framework for IPR using web ontologies

In order to improve the management of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Internet, there is the need for a common language for IPR representation. This language is aimed to help building a reliable Web where IPR can be managed in an open, global and adaptable form, so people can share, sell, buy, etc. content subject to IPR, depending on their needs. We are following a semantic approach to t...

An Architecture for the Interoperability between Rights Expression Languages Based on Xacml

None of the current initiatives to provide interoperability between Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems, such as CORAL [3] or Marlin [13], provide a global solution to enable different devices to render content governed by different DRM systems. Interoperability applies to different aspects of DRM, such as languages for rights expression, digital objects declaration and protection informati...

A Review of the OMA DRM V2 ODRL Profile

This paper presents a review of the OMA DRM Version 2.0 profile of the ODRL REL. It looks at the decisions made by the OMA DRM working group and offers alternatives. The lessons are important to both the ODRL Initiative and to other groups developing profiles of the ODRL REL. Index terms ODRL, DRM Open Mobile Alliance, REL Profile
